What has become of the Murdaugh family's former home?

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — The jury in Alex Murdaugh's murder trial visited his family's former home in South Carolina this week, seeing firsthand where Murdaugh allegedly killed his wife, Maggie, and adult son, Paul.

As closing arguments begin in the trial, WCIV looked into the status of that property.

As of Wednesday, it's still under contract to be sold. But the sale hasn't been finalized.

A probate judge approved the sale for $3.9 million in December pending approval of a settlement agreement in a lawsuit stemming from a boating crash related to the family.

Funds from the sale will be held in escrow by Maggie Murdaugh's estate attorney pending the outcome of various other legal matters. As of Feb. 7, the special probate judge assigned the case had requested a status update from her estate attorney about the settlement agreement and sale, with a due date of March 7.

Nothing has been filed yet.
