CORPUS CHRISTI, TX (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Nueces County Commissioners selected Global Spectrum to manage the new Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds, a four-facility complex on 500-acres near Corpus Christi, TX that will include an arena, baseball park, exhibition/banquet/conference and animal buildings.
"Global Spectrum has the track record as experts in managing similar projects and we are truly impressed with their vision for our facility," said County Judge Terry Shamsie. "We are quite impressed with their experience in opening and operating projects similar to the Regional Fairgrounds. They also have the best industry resources and contacts, and we're confident they will work with us to make our facility a wonderful multi-purpose facility for the residents of Corpus Christi and the surrounding region."
"We look forward to working closely with Nueces County and Judge Shamsie on this expansive and exciting new project," said Global Spectrum Chief Operating Officer John Page. "The Complex's facilities will eventually provide a diverse menu of activities and events that will appeal to all of the residents throughout Nueces County. It is our intention to provide everyone with quality, comfortable and friendly facilities, and the finest in sports and entertainment events."
The new Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds Complex, located in Robstown, TX, currently features a 4,500-seat minor league baseball stadium, which is home to the Central Baseball League Costal Bend Aviators. Facilities to be completed are a pavilion, consisting of a 2,000-seat show arena, which is connected to two exhibition and animal buildings and a 33,000-sq. ft. conference/banquet facility.
The Regional Fairgrounds Complex is similar to the Ranch at Larimer County in Loveland, CO, where Global Spectrum manages the Budweiser Events Center for the County. At the Budweiser Events Center, several other Comcast-Spectacor subsidiaries provide services, including Ovations Food Services which handle the food and beverage services, New Era Tickets, which sell tickets for all events and Front Row Marketing Services, which sell the naming rights and premium seating at the venue.
"Global Spectrum and Comcast-Spectacor will be a tremendous asset to our facility and our community," said Shamsie. "Comcast-Spectacor is a total entertainment company which is exactly what we need to make our proposed facility a success."
Additionally, Global Spectrum named Kelvin D. Moore, CMP, as general manager of the new Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds. Moore, formerly general manager of the Global Spectrum-managed Overland Park Convention Center, will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds, including scheduling and booking, marketing and selling sponsorships, maintenance, security and event management, as well as handling the financial responsibilities and obligations to Nueces County as it pertains to the complex.
"Kelvin is an incredibly talented leader who brings a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge to Nueces County," said Page. "We will rely heavily on Kelvin and his on-site staff to make the Nueces County Regional Fairgrounds a true marvel for residents throughout the Region."
Moore joined Global Spectrum as assistant general manager at the Greater Richmond Convention Center in 2003, and then was promoted to general manager at the Overland Park Convention Center in 2005. Prior to joining Global Spectrum, Moore was Events and Booking Services manager for the San Antonio Convention Facilities Department in San Antonio, TX. He spent five years (1996-2001) as the events coordinator and assistant project coordinator at the Phoenix Civic Plaza Convention Center in Phoenix, AZ. Moore was also senior events coordinator at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX, and Production Specialist at Sea World of Texas. –Bob Grossweiner and Jane Cohen
