Police serve search warrant to OSU fraternity amid dead longhorn incident

STILLWATER, Okla. (KOKH) — Police served a search warrant Wednesday to an Oklahoma State fraternity allegedly involved in the disposing of a dead longhorn onto another fraternity’s front lawn.

I mean, we deal with dead animals on the side of the road all the time, but nothing to this extent. This is very unusual and very cruel," said TJ Low, Lieutenant Public Information Officer for the Stillwater Police Department.

According to police, a dead longhorn was illegally dumped onto the lawn of the Farmhouse fraternity Friday, December 1, just a day before Oklahoma State football’s matchup against the Texas Longhorns in the Big 12 championship.

Stillwater Police Wednesday served a search warrant to the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity house, which is the fraternity allegedly suspected of the act.

“Some of the information that we received from Alpha Gamma Rho is that the members have some information of the acquisition, transportation, and disposal of the animal corpse, which lead to this search warrant being obtained to this property," Low said.

Initially, there were questions of whether or not the people responsible actually killed the longhorn before disposing of it. While Low said that looks unlikely, they can’t say for certain until the necropsy report is fully completed.

“The initial investigation through the necropsy report revealed that the animal was already in a diseased state, so their interpretation was that the animal was possibly dead prior to being disposed of. So that’s part of the investigation that we’re still waiting on the full necropsy report," he said.

Low also said they’ve received information that suggests the dead longhorn being dumped onto the lawn was the result of a back-and-forth feud between the fraternities.

“Some of the information that was given to us does indicate as possibly a back and forth feud between the fraternities such as a prank war, but, obviously, got taken a little bit further than it needed to have been," he said.
