Man charged for fatal December crash in Clearfield Co.

State police in Clearfield say a man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal crash along Route 729 in late December, according to a news release.

Officials say the crash occurred on Dec. 20, just before 7 a.m., along Route 729 in Ferguson Township when two pick-up trucks collided head-on.

According to the initial report, troopers said the victim's vehicle caught fire and the driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Following an investigation of the crash, the driver of the other vehicle, Michael Rose, 29, of Woodland, was arrested and charged Wednesday for operating his vehicle, at the time of the crash, while under the influence of a controlled substance.

Rose faces several charges including homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, involuntary manslaughter, two counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and careless driving resulting in unintentional death, according to court documents.

He is being housed at Clearfield County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail, court dockets also show, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 8.
