White Plains Construction Business Starts In Recession, Emerges As Leader

Now, seven years later, the business has evolved into one of the region’s leaders in commercial construction. It was acknowledged by Inc. Magazine as one of the fastest-growing privately owned companies in the nation for two straight years, and was named a local industry leader in 2014 by Forbes.

“Everyone told me I was out of my mind to start a construction company in one of the worst economic downturns, companies of 30 years or more were going out of business,’’ Summa said in an interview with U.S. Builders Review.

Summa, whose background is in real estate development, is the President and CEO of the Commercial Construction Division. Casarella is the Chief Operating Officer and President of the site development division.

Together, Summa and Casarella have built a team that has seen them through the economic downturn to build one of the region’s most successful construction businesses.

Kings Capital provides turn-key projects from ground-up construction. Its projects include corporate fit outs, retail, hospitality, healthcare development, and commercial capital improvements.

Kings Capital develops projects in Westchester, Fairfield County, and northern New Jersey. Among its completed projects is Chilmark Shopping Center in Chappaqua. Workers renovated three buildings with a new facade featuring brick and exterior insulation finishing. All storefronts were replaced to accommodate matching frames. The onsite work included 400 feet of retaining walls, new sidewalks, a new parking lot and pole lights and a 38,000 gallon rainwater retainage system. Businesses in the complex include Food Emporium, Subway, Dress Barn and Carvel.

Among its current projects is site development for the Nanuet Firehouse in Clarkstown, Sprout Brook Park in Cortlandt and Executive Drive in Fort Lee, N.J., a massive task that includes excavation work for an 18-story building with underground parking.

“Kings Capital Construction Group’s mission is to be the best partner for their customers and suppliers by maintaining an ‘anything can be accomplished’ philosophy,’’ it says on its website. “Kings Capital has built their reputation as a service and client oriented company and their strong relationships through teamwork, integrity, commitment and customer service.

The recession created challenges for many businesses, especially construction. Kings Capital proved not only it could succeed, but thrive.

“We started with a couple of good clients, and we’ve built from that,” Summa said in an interview with Forbes in 2014. “Every project has its challenges, and it’s how you tackle those challenges that sets you apart.”
